Our paper on the effectiveness of motivational interviewing-based chatbot is published at BMC Public Health. Long story short: we found that talking with a chatbot about smoking cessation during the initial contact increased people’s motivation to quit, even though no extra motivational effect was found for the motivational interviewing-styled counselling. This shows that chatbots do have the potential in motivating and helping people to quit, and our future research will investigate how to best realize such potential.
